Post Photoshoot Routine

POST PHOTOSHOOT ROUTINE | Megan Taylor

I have been thinking about writing this post for a while. I have been modelling and acting for many years. During my busy periods of work when I am on jobs rather than casting I have a lot of make up plastered on my face and my hair has a lot of heat directed very closely to each individual strand. When I first started modelling and acting I didn’t know how to deal with all this damage to my hair and skin and as a result had split ends and acne. This in turn was not great for my career and self esteem…especially with the growth of high res! I thought I would share with you my post photoshoot routine. This is everything that I do once I get home from a shoot and in effect wash away my day. My following advice is for everyone, you don’t have to have been on a photoshoot to reap benefits from my routine.

{Above is a little snippet of what goes on behind the scenes with lots of make up and flour being flung at me.}

1. Take Off Your Make Up
As soon as I get in through the door I take off my make up. I find make up quite claustrophobic. Especially when it has been applied in thick layers. I use Bobbi Brown’s waterproof eye make up remover to take off my eye make up because you need so little of it to remove the make up, therefore you wont end up with sore red eyes. I then use Clarins Daily Energizer Cleanser to wash the make up off my face. I do this twice. The first time I rub it in well to dislodge the make up. I then use the cleanser again to make sure all of the make up has been removed and my water is running clear.

2. Have A Soak
I thoroughly recommend chilling in the bath for half an hour. Either take a book (I am currently reading the Corr’s sisters book The Witch’s Kiss) or take your iPad in to catch on the latest episodes of your favourite show on Netflix. I like to wash my hair and use a leave in conditioner like this Kérastase mask whilst I soak to help my hair repair from the heat damage during the day.

3. Hair Turban
I use a hair turban to towel dry my hair when I get out of the bath. My hair is very thick and wild and unless I blow dry it, it will be wet for at least 24 hours. The hair turbans help to draw out any water before I rough dry it.

4. Food
Food on set can be pretty unhealthy yet you may still fancy a hearty meal. I suggest having a healthy but filling meal like courgetti pommodori, I may have to share my exact recipe one day but it is basically…Courgettes spiralized with a homemade tomato sauce and ripped up buffallo mozzerella. Then treat yourself to a yummy tub of Booja Booja chocolate ice cream.

5. Tea For The Soul
Whilst your food is cooking have a mug of camomile tea to help you relax and prepare to get sleepy. I like to have camomile flowers rather than normal camomile tea bags which are basically just the dust.

6. Mental Relaxation
Although you may have spent the day at work prised away from your mobile phone it is imperative that from 8pm you spend as little time on your phone as possible. If you find it hard to switch off you may like to download the app Headspace to help you relax.

7. Catch Up
Take this time away from your phone to catch up with those around you. What has your boyfriend/husband/girlfriend/flatmate/family been up to today? Tell them what amazing things you have done.

8. Face Food
I like to slather my face with Balm Balm’s Little Miracle Serum after a long day of a face full of make up. This serum is wonderful as it is rejuvenating, moisturising and full of essential oils which help rid us of scaring.

I hope some of my tips can help you relax. Let me know if there are any other tips you would like to share.

Thank you so much Chloe. The best bit is when you get sleepy on the sofa you don’t have to wake yourself off to take your make up off xx
