FITNESS FRIDAY // ARMS

This workout is going to hit many parts of your stomach, including that pesky bottom section that can be really hard to work on.

DOWNWARD DOG PRESS UP
Much like in yoga, produce a gorgeous downward dog pose with a flat back. You are now going to do a press up, directing your head towards your fingers.

PLANK PRESS UPS
These are hard and get insanely tough as your arms get more and more tired with each circuit.

CRAB TOE TOUCH
This exercise will hit your arms and abs. With your knees bent, prop yourself up with your hands behind you. Kick your legs up one by one touching each foot with the opposite hand.

EXERCISE PLAN

Begin with a 5-10 minute speed walk to light run to build yourself up to a slight glow.

EXERCISE 1
DOWNWARD DOG PRESS UP
(30 seconds)

(30 seconds rest)

EXERCISE 2
PLANK PRESS UPS
(30 seconds)

(30 seconds rest)

EXERCISE 3
CRAB TOE TOUCH
(30 seconds)

(30 seconds rest)

REPEAT THIS 3 MINUTE CIRCUIT x3 TIMES

If you find this too easy, cut your RESTS to 20 SECONDS.
If you are still finding this too easy (well done!!) then add on a forth circuit.

REVLON BLOGGER DEBATE

Last week I was invited to be on a panel of bloggers to talk about all things hair and the blogosphere. On a hot Monday afternoon after a long morning of filming in South London I headed on over to Dalston, down a hidden road to find a little hairdressing gem called Colour World. A converted road had been turned into a maze full of cool urban brick rooms decked out in light bulb letters and confetti balloons…it was Instagram heaven! Alex, Gabriella and I had been invited by Revlon to chat in their own private room…I’m a bit biased but their room was definitely the best looking.

WHAT WE CHATTED ABOUT

We were invited to chat about the hair world and its connection to bloggers, or how they could in fact begin to connect. All of the questions that Laura from Little Light PR asked us were very interesting. Laura touched on topics like, how to reach out to bloggers and where bloggers and our audiences seek for hair inspo.

MY TOP SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS

• Turn your Instagram account into a business account (in your settings).
This way you can see when your followers are most active, where your followers live (city/country) and how old your audience is.
• Selfie Corners.
I do think that hairdressing salons need better lighting and a fab and super cool selfie corner. If salons want to grow their audience and have great content to regram and share across their social then they need their clients to take great photos. I find that salons currently do not have very good lighting and do not make for a great selfie atmosphere to show off what you have had done.
• Pinterest is worthy.
Pinterest should definitely be utilised by bloggers and hair dressers alike. Pinterest is a fabulous place to scroll through to find inspiration. The great thing about Pinterest is that with every photo of your own that you “pin” it can be hyperlinked back to your own site thus diverting more traffic and more business your way.

Sara Hill Make Up

I was recently introduced to a make up brand that I hadn’t heard of before by make up artist Sara Hill. Her make up line is aptly called Sara Hill make up. The reason I was first drawn to the make up line was the striking classy packaging which is the perfect blend of Mac and Bobbi Brown. The second and most important reason why I love this brand is because it is a Peta approved company and as a vegetarian I always love a brand that is kind to the animal kingdom. I was talking to my fellow veggie cousins recently and saying we would love it if it were a law that said if you test on animals you have to state it on your packaging, therefore penalising a cost to those companies rather than forcing kind companies to front the cost to state that they don’t test on animals…anyway I should carry on in another blog post, you are here for the pretty make up. Another fab pointer I need to share with you is that Sara Hill offers make up artist discount of 30%, head on over to her website to find out more.

LIPSTICKS

I am loving these lipsticks because they are creamy and don’t dry your lips out. I don’t wear lipstick everyday but when I do I hate a drying lipstick. The two colours I have tried are Pink Truffle and Some Like It Hot. I am in love with Pink Truffle because it is so easily wearable. This colour is natural but you look as if you have tried with your make up a little bit. I find it to be the perfect lipstick for me to apply mirrorless in the audition waiting room and would be the perfect interview lipstick. Some Like It Hot is a little bit more on the wild side and takes a braver gal to pull it off. This being said I am definitely going to be wearing it over the Christmas party season…yes, I am already thinking about Christmas 😛

EYESHADOWS

Sara Hill produces to types of eyeshadows, those in a normal eyeshadow pot and those which are a little bit cheaper and in a small magnetic case which you can pop into her specially designed cases. These are perfect for make up artist to create their own palettes. I do not have the palette so I popped mine into my Mac eyeshadow case with ease.

Have you tried Sara Hill’s make up before?

Netflix Picks {March 2017}

Wow, It has been about 10 months since I last shared my Netflix picks and for that I apologise as they are some of my most popular posts. Within those 10 months I have binge watched my fair share of great TV and film and I am here to share my favourites with you to keep occupied this weekend. Click on the titles to watch the trailers.

TV

DESIGNATED SURVIVOR

Did you ever watch 24? If you did, then much like me you would be the biggest fan of Jack Bauer. Well, in this program (although not actually anything to do with 24) Jack Bauer becomes the President of the United States and quite simply put it is AWESOME. You must watch it now.

SHOOTER

Ryan Phillippe is back and he is on fire. I started watching this with Liam as he enjoyed the movie that this program is based on. Mark Wahlberg is the producer after having played the lead in the original movie. I haven’t personally watched the movie but I have really enjoyed the series and I can’t wait for it to be back for season 2.

THE GOOD WIFE

Where do I start with this fabulous program? With seven cracking seasons I would highly recommend you get watching right away as you have a lot to catch up on. Big from Sex and The City plays a politician with a sordid life which blows up in the media leaving his scorned wife to publicly stand by her man whilst he is put in prison and she has to start working as a lawyer again after many years away from the profession. At the end of every episode you will struggle not to press play on the next.

FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES

Let me warn you right now, this show is wonderful but it was cancelled after only one season so try your best not to get to attached. James Van Der Beek is back playing a similar character to the one he played in ‘Don’t Trust The B****’. He leads the cast with a FRIENDS like appearance. This is a great show to watch when you need a quick laugh. #FWBL

FILM

EDDIE THE EAGLE

The film based on the real Eddie The Eagle’s life is heartwarming and beautifully made. I loved every second of this film. It is one of those special British made movies that leaves you feeling all warm and gooey inside. There are so many incredibly funny moments that you would be hard pushed to not enjoy this movie. You will also finish the movie in absolute awe for ski jumpers, the danger is unreal. The movie is only £5 on Amazon at the moment so I would actually recommend you buy it so that you can watch the extra bits which are fascinating.

OPERATOR

This rather arty movie should be watched when you are prepared to really concentrate. This movie deserves your undivided attention. Mae Whitman is the lead actress in this film and plays the ever increasingly patient girlfriend of a very talented man that suffers from severe panic attacks. Her lulling voice becomes the voice for an automated phone service. A very interesting watch.

TAKEN 3

Everyone loves Liam Neeson I think it is really impressive that the Taken franchise has been so made so well. It is so rare that a sequel is as good as its first but Taken has really accomplished this. Taken 3 was gripping but Liam definitely preferred it than me. I love the storyline but some bits were a bit too gory for me but I always prefer happiness which I shouldn’t be expecting in this sort of movie haha.

Is there anything I have missed off my list?

Autumn Apple Pie

Have you ever had a real baking disaster? I honestly thought I was pretty good at baking until I was placed under a bit of time pressure and was trying anything possible to speed up the whole process and as a result used the wrong kind of flour and added eggs where they shouldn’t be. I have made many apple pies in the past but this particular baking session was awful. Imagine flour all over your kitchen, in your hair, in your eyelashes, crumbly pastry on the floor and in the keyboard of your laptop…oh and your teeny chihuahua trying to lick up the flour from the floor and subsequently sneezing it everywhere. The drama was unreal and I obviously took it out on Liam as he was the only person I could vent on. After throwing said crap pastry across the kitchen and screaming at Liam for a little while and trying to blame it on him even though he was in the other room building a shelf from scratch, he then helped make me some fresh pastry which of course was perfect! Four hours later I had eventually made the perfect autumn apple pie and with a well tried and tested recipe I would love to share it with you as it turned out to be delicious.

Autumn Apple Pie | Megan Taylor{Uncooked and ready to pop in the oven…I am in love with this pastry but what a drama to get there!}

INGREDIENTS
Pastry:
225gr Plain flour
100gr chilled butter
Casting sugar
Pinch of salt
3tbsp of water
(This made enough for my base. I would recommend making this twice if you want to make a lattice and the stars.)

Filling:
x4 Cooking apples (peeled)
x2 Braeburn apples (peeled) for added sweetness
Caster Sugar
Zest of one lemon
Zest of one orange
2tsp of ground cinnamon
Extra sugar, cinnamon and milk for brushing and dusting on the top

METHOD
•Preheat the oven to 180ºC (fan oven).
•Unconventionally I used a loose bottomed cake tin which made the pie very easy to remove and made it look like a giant pork pie.

Pastry
•Place the pinch of salt, caster sugar and flour in a bowl and mix together until it resembles bread crumbs.
•Add water until it all binds together. Be careful not to overwork your pastry.
•Wrap in clingfilm and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

Filling
•Peel and chop up your apples into smallish chunks (it is your choice how you chop them depending on how chunky you want your apple to be in your pie.)
•Over a low heat pour your apples, cinnamon, sugar and lemon and orange zest into a big pan. Leave these to simmer for about 5-10 minutes, stirring regularly.

•Butter your tin thoroughly to allow for easy removal once your pie is cooked.
•Roll out your pastry to the thickness of a pound coin and line your tin with this pastry.
•You need to blind bake this base of pastry by cooking it at this stage for about 5 minutes. If you have the posh baking beads then use these to weigh down the pastry or you can use rice. I am a bit lazy and don’t use anything and just pray for the best.
•Once you have blind baked the base pour in your apples and the sauce it has created. Be careful not to add too much of the liquid the apples have produced as you don’t want a “soggy bottomed” pie.
•Make your lattice lid by rolling out your pastry as wide as possible and slicing centimetre wide strips. Then weave them over and under each other.
Top Tip: Make your lattice on a chopping board so you can slide it straight off and on to your pie.
•Once you have placed your lattice onto the apples, pinch it together with the base. Don’t worry if this is messy because you can use the stars to cover it.
•Use a small star cookie cutter to make teeny stars out of your left over pastry and decorate.
•Brush milk all over your pie.
•Mix your extra ground cinnamon and caster sugar in a bowl and sprinkle generously over your pie.
•Cook for 45 minutes or until golden and the pastry looks cooked.

…and enjoy…
•Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram if you make it•
